Kiwi Born and Bred
Hi, my name is Rob Marginson and I’m the owner operator of Auckland City Auctions. I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself and my business.

Kiwi born and bred, and like many of you out there, my grandparents originate from the UK. I’m proud of my heritage and even prouder to be a Kiwi.
I started business in 1995 visiting auction houses, buying and selling an assortment of products. One of the auction houses I used came up for sale and I jumped at the chance and bought it…and so the Auckland City Auctions journey began.
Today we hold thousands of individual items ranging from LazBoy suites, new household furniture, secondhand lundia shelving and new and used office furniture.
One misconception about Auckland City Auctions is that we are still an auction house. We no longer hold auctions as the process only raises the cost of items to you the buyer. I do all the hard work for you and sell the items at a below market price…you could call me the Robin Hood of furniture.

Sat back with my feet up
I own Auckland City Auctions, but that doesn’t mean I’m sat back with my feet up. I’m a hands on kinda guy and manage every aspect of the business. If I’m not out buying new stock or delivering items across Auckland, I’ll be organising the warehouse/showroom to make sure visitors are able see everything I have to offer.

Successful Furniture Business
To be successful in the furniture industry, you have to be flexible. I dedicate many hours a week, looking for great deals for my customers, which shows in the quality of furniture I have in the showroom, all while juggling a busy family life. I have four beautiful children who mean the world to me, so every back breaking day is made just that little easier by knowing what and who I’m doing it for.

Customer Orientated
Auckland City Auctions is a fast moving business. The items we hold are ever changing and as many of you will already know, if you don’t move quickly the item you want will already be gone. Even though I always have a million and one things to do, I always have time for my customers.

Global Search
I strive to keep ahead of the game, so utilising internet based global manufacturers has made it easier finding great deals on quality furniture. I only ever search for quality furniture to then sell at a reasonable price to the NZ market. I have a close relation with a small group of global suppliers, who know I only want the best.

Passion and Honesty
I believe you must be passionate about what you do for a living and I feel very lucky that I’m passionate about what I do every day.

If I had to pick the best trait of a salesman, it would have to be honesty. Few of us really trust salesmen, its a game to them and we are just the pawns. Although I’m a wheeler dealer when it comes to buying, as I’m always looking to drive a hard bargain, selling is different. All prices are set at a fair and reasonable level where I can continue to run Auckland City Auctions and you, the customer, gets a quality item at a much cheaper price than it’s original recommended retail price.

The Future
